Now that you have determined we should work together. Here is how we figure out how much it will cost. There are many more factors than time involved in calculating the cost of your photoshoot. Having an idea of your budget helps tremendously. Knowing things such as what we have to work with, where we can shoot, who we can hire, what props and equipment can be used to make the photograph more interesting… These all are considerations when determining what your photographs will look like.

Creative fee
Deadline, specific style, creative solutions, expectations, logistics, experience, subject time constraints are all taken into consideration when determining the creative fee.

Usage or licensing fee
What you will be doing with the photograph? The more the photograph is used, the higher the usage fee. Is the use commercial, editorial, or retail?

Production needs of the job — the expenses
Who we need to hire, location expenses, permits, set design and materials, helicopters, cranes, transportation, lodging, studios, pre production, post production, security, etc.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

“Why isn’t your price simply time and materials?”
or
“What is your day rate?”

I do not charge on a day rate or hourly basis. Each project is unique, and time is only one factor I consider when determining my price for a specific assignment. Photography is a creative process and production time is rarely an indicator of value.

“Why do you need to know how I am going to use the photographs?”

Photographs are intellectual property, and licensing their use is how I generate income. The fees for a specific project are based on the use of the photographs because the more the images are used, the greater value they have. Since they’re worth more, they cost more.

“You cost more per hour than my attorney.”

I do not charge by the hour, so dividing the total cost for this project by the hours estimated for me to be on site photographing does not give you a clear explanation of my fees. My fees are based on the creative and production needs of the job, the expenses, and the license terms we agree upon for use of the images. Factors other than time are frequently more influential in determining my price for a job.

“You mean I pay you and I don’t own it?”

Photographs are the intellectual property of the creator. Much like software or a book, you can purchase the use, but the creator still owns the material. I own the rights to my photographs, but I can write a license that will let you do whatever you need to do. My price will reflect the value of that license.

“I do not want to come back to you each time I need to use these pictures.”

I am more than happy to license a package of rights for these photographs, but you may be paying for uses you do not really need. I am service oriented and accessible if additional uses arise. My goal is, of course, to build a long-term business relationship, so tell me what your plans are and we can work out an equitable license.

I hope this helps. I’d be happy to discuss your specific project in order to provide a fair estimate.

I have always been a fan of the beach. Feeling the warm sun on my face, hearing the sound of the waves, the smell of the ocean air. During my stay in Los Angeles I am wondering why I didn’t choose to produce some photoshoots on the beach. Perhaps I associated the California vibe with work that didn’t match my vision.

South Florida gives me a different vibe. My vision is to incorporate the high-fashion visuals with ocean vistas and beach inspiration. Perhaps even an all new level to swimwear. For the first time in my career I am inspired to shoot swimwear. Not the garage glamour pin up style but pure fashion photography. I will not limit my vision to just swimwear. I can even visualize how to incorporate the ocean and the beach into beauty photography.

The more I shoot the more I get in touch with my personal style. I really get a sense of my modern minimalistic influences. Inspired by architecture from Frank Lloyd Wright. Clean lines… simplification of form…

Keep an eye out for a whole new portfolio. I love transformation.

A classic tried and true approach. There’s equally a story behind an old pair of shoes. Look how far they’ve gotten you. Both victories and defeat as well as both new and old territory, those shoes have stood up through life for you.
